ZOCOR
ZOCOR or
generic Zocor - simvastatin - is a prescription drug
used for those who have high cholesterol. When taken together with a low-fat diet, this medicine can
lower LDL cholesterol, commonly referred to as the “bad” cholesterol, triglycerides, and
total cholesterol, while increasing the HDL, or “good” cholesterol.
For patients at high risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) because of existing heart disease, diabetes,
vascular disease, or history of stroke, generic Zocor is indicated along with diet to reduce the risk of death
by reducing coronary death; reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke; and reduce the need for
revascularization procedures.
GENERIC ZOCOR functions the same way as Zocor, but at a lower cost. To learn more about generic Zocor,
please follow the information we have provided below.
How Generic Zocor works
Simvastatin works by blocking an enzyme in the liver that is
used by your body to make cholesterol. The result is lower levels of circulating cholesterol and reduced
risk of hardening of the arteries and plaque accumulation in blood vessel walls.

When Generic Zocor should not be used
Some people should not take
GENERIC ZOCOR. Discuss this with your doctor.
Generic Zocor should not be used by patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients. In addition to
the active ingredient simvastatin, each tablet contains the following inactive ingredients: cellulose,
lactose, magnesium stearate, iron oxides, talc, titanium dioxide, and starch. Butylated hydroxyanisole
is added as a preservative.
Patients with liver problems: generic Zocor should not be used by patients with active liver disease or
repeated blood test results indicating possible liver problems. (See WARNINGS.)
Women who are or may become pregnant: Pregnant women should not take
generic Zocor because it may harm the fetus. Women of childbearing age should not take generic Zocor
unless it is highly unlikely that they will become pregnant. If a woman does become pregnant while on
generic Zocor, she should stop taking the drug and talk to her doctor at once.
Women who are breast-feeding should not take generic Zocor.

Generic Zocor indications
Lipid-altering agents should be used in addition to a diet restricted
in saturated fat and cholesterol.
In patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) or at high risk of CHD,
generic Zocor can be started simultaneously with diet.
Reductions in Risk of CHD Mortality and Cardiovascular Events
In patients at high risk of coronary events because of existing coronary heart disease, diabetes, peripheral
vessel disease, history of stroke or other cerebrovascular disease,
generic Zocor is indicated to:
• Reduce the risk of total mortality by reducing CHD deaths.
• Reduce the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction and stroke.
• Reduce the need for coronary and non-coronary revascularization procedures.
Patients with Hypercholesterolemia Requiring Modifications of Lipid Profiles
GENERIC ZOCOR is indicated to:
• Reduce elevated total-C, LDL-C, Apo B, and TG, and to increase HDL-C in patients with primary
hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and nonfamilial) and mixed dyslipidemia (Fredrickson
types IIa and IIb4).
• Treat patients with hypertriglyceridemia (Fredrickson type lV hyperlipidemia).
• Treat patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia (Fredrickson type lll hyperlipidemia).
• Reduce total-C and LDL-C in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia as an
adjunct to other lipid-lowering treatments (e.g., LDL apheresis) or if such treatments are
unavailable.
Adolescent Patients with Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia
(HeFH)
GENERIC ZOCOR is indicated as an adjunct to diet to reduce total-C, LDL-C, and Apo B levels in adolescent boys
and girls who are at least one year post-menarche, 10-17 years of age, with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia,
if after an adequate trial of diet therapy the following findings are present:
1. LDL cholesterol remains ≥190 mg/dL; or
2. LDL cholesterol remains ≥160 mg/dL and
• There is a positive family history of premature cardiovascular disease (CVD) or
• Two or more other CVD risk factors are present in the adolescent patient
The minimum goal of treatment in pediatric and adolescent patients is to achieve a mean LDL-C <130 mg/dL.
The optimal age at which to initiate lipid-lowering therapy to decrease the risk of symptomatic adulthood CAD
has not been determined.

Generic Zocor Dosage and administration
The patient should be placed on a standard cholesterol-lowering diet.
In patients with CHD or at high risk of CHD, generic Zocor can be started simultaneously with diet. The dosage should be
individualized according to the goals of therapy and the patient’s response. The dosage range is 5-80 mg/day
(see below).
The recommended usual starting dose of generic Zocor is 20 to 40 mg once a day in the evening. For patients at high
risk for a CHD event due to existing coronary heart disease, diabetes, peripheral vessel disease, history of stroke
or other cerebrovascular disease, the recommended starting dose is 40 mg/day. Lipid determinations should be
performed after 4 weeks of therapy and periodically thereafter.
Use the following chart to measure how you may reduce your total cholesterol level when prescribed different dosages
of generic Zocor in addition to a proper diet and exercise program.

MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY
Magnesium deficiency results in increased LDL Cholesterols and Triglycerides and low HDL Cholesterol levels.
Magnesium has been referred to as “nature’s calcium channel-blocker” because of its ability to
block the entry of calcium into vascular smooth-muscle cells and heart muscle cells.
As a result, magnesium supplementation can help reduce vascular resistance, lower blood pressure, and lead to more
efficient heart function. Magnesium also helps regulate proper calcium metabolism through its actions on several
hormones including parathyroid hormone and calcitonin. - Dr. Michael T. Murray, N.D.
Research has shown that Magnesium may help prevent Cardiovascular Disease. Magnesium deficiencies are at the root
cause of many Cardiovascular problems. Magnesium deficiency may be a major cause of fatal cardiac arrhythmia,
hypertension, and sudden cardiac arrest. - Dr. James F. Balch, M.D. & Phyllis A. Balch, CNC.
